Text Box: In the meantime, I had reached out to Barbara Leggette with Collie Rescue of Mississippi. She had an opening in her sanctuary program and agreed that this old gal deserved a better life than what she'd already experienced. We arranged for her husband, Jim, to meet me the following Saturday in Lake Village, Arkansas. Barbara said that this dog's name would be Hope.

Back at the shelter, Julie and Lisa returned with Hope; we got a sympathetic veterinarian to give her a routine physical. She estimated Hope to be 8 - 10 yrs. old and supplied antibiotics for a bladder infection at no charge. Her heartworm test was negative. Jeannie & Leslie had agreed to groom Hope on Friday, so Lisa and Julie spent all day Thursday working on her coat so she wouldn't have to be shaved down. When Hope got tired, she napped on the euthanasia-turned-grooming table on a blanket to cushion her old bones. She spent that night at Bows & Polish. Some time between the 17th and 19th of April, #1500402 became Hope.

The early photos show a dog in despair, but the later ones show a beautiful classy dowager who isn't done yet. Thanks to the teamwork of some great people, Collie Rescue of Mississippi now has a beautiful new addition to their sanctuary program. Hope lives.

During her entire time at the shelter, she never let out a peep. When she met Jim Leggette and felt the soft breeze flowing through her silky coat, she let out a couple of barks that could only be described as joyous.

Hope passed over to rainbow bridge in December 2003
