Text Box: Laurel wandered the streets of a Mississippi subdivision. Thin, muddy and matted, she aroused no-one’s interest or compassion, and might have died at the roadside had not one passing “angel” stopped to help. Captured by Laurel’s soft eyes, the passing stranger stayed long enough to call the police department and report this lost Collie.

Two more “angels” in police uniforms arrived to collect the shivering collie and carry her to the shelter. Dog-lovers both, they recognized the quality of the animal hiding inside that ill-kempt coat, and instead of turning her over to the pound, they took her back to police headquarters with them, hiding her in an empty K9 kennel while they tried to figure out how to help her.

Laurel’s luck seemed to have turned and held, as the two officers found out about Collie Rescue of Mississippi and got in touch with us. A short while later, those two angels turned up on our doorstep with Laurel sitting in the back seat of their squad car. Laurel’s bright eyes and softly wagging tail spoke her thanks to those two kind Samaritans.

It took a while to find out just how beautiful a dog lay beneath that matted, dull coat. Like all our rescued collies, Laurel had a complete vet check, vaccinations, a bath and the first of many careful grooming. Slowly the gleam
returned to her eye and the glow to her coat, and Laurel is now one of the
prettiest and proudest of the Meadowview Collies.

To read her tribute.
