Text Box: Hi guys! It’s me Will again! The last update, February 22nd, that I sent due to information that was provided to Mom on Friday and Saturday night has all changed as of Monday morning. Mom received a phone call that morning and was told that I would not be going in for surgery that day instead it would be Tuesday. Then I got bumped again to Wednesday due to an excessive amount of emergencies that came in. I finally was scheduled for surgery on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. With Dad being out of town, I was not able to let you all know what was going on.

After several weeks of Dr. Shores and the human Plastic Surgeon passing a diagram of my nose reconstruction back and forth and emailing each other along with phone conversations, while I was being treated for my infections, they came to a conclusion. Mom was informed that instead of the surgeries being spread out during the next four weeks, they were going to do it all at once which they thought would be easier on me. Boy, don’t I get a say in this? Anyway, Mom was finally called by Dr. Shores, my Surgeon, after everything was over. It took four and one-half hours to complete everything and Dr. Shores was very pleased with the outcome. As a matter of fact, he was so proud that he was showing my new nose off to everyone.

The procedure consisted of suturing the stitches that came loose for the hole in my pallet and one in the area where they sewed up the hole on the top of my muzzle where I was breathing from. That was where the shot gun wound had entered. They then created a nostril for me so I can breathe like a normal dog and extended the tissue more to conceal my lip and teeth area so I don’t look like I’m smiling on one side of my face.

I went in for surgery again on March 9, and was suppose to have very minor surgery so that they could finish up some final details. Turns out it was another four hour surgery. Wheewwww, that was not fun after having my last one just two weeks ago! With this surgery, they did some more suturing to the hole in my pallet again along with the hole in my nose, created my second nostril and took some tissue from inside my cheek area and inserted into my new nostril to create the tissue they needed for that nostril. Man that sounds just tooo gross! They also inserted a small steel rod into my nostril and injected another antibiotic into this rod because I am still battling this one other bacteria. This antibiotic is suppose to get rid of the last bug in my nose as Kathryn calls it and it is time released which will last for three months. Anyway, everything went according to plan with no complications.

Oh, GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!! I’m going home early part of next week to be with Mom again! YEAH!!!!!!!!, and won’t have to return for another two to three months as to take out that steel rod in my nostril, which does not sound like fun, and to see how I am progressing. I understand that a lot of people that were taking care of me are really going to miss me. I guess I’ll miss them too but, I just want to get out of this place and be home with Mom and Dad and all those other Collies they have!
