Text Box: The Will Saga Comes to a Very Joyous Conclusion

Hey guys, it’s me Will! Okay, I know it’s been awhile since Mom posted an update on me so here it is.

Mom was going to call Mississippi State University (MSU) in early April to schedule my surgery, until she noticed I had a bit of congestion built up, so she put the call on hold and called Dr. Rick who wanted Mom to bring me in for a check up. He checked me over and took a culture, which we had to wait for seven days to come back with the results. Well, indeed I did develop another infection, but don’t worry, not as bad as those other nasty infections! It was small enough where Dr. Rick put me on Baytril for 7 days and Mom took me back a week later, so that he could recheck me and I was all cleared up!!!!!! I’m so glad it wasn’t those nasty bugs again cause I really hated getting those shots three times a day for three weeks! That ‘s why I gave Mom such a rough time when she tried to help me cause I hated it soooo much!

While undergoing the antibiotics, Mom received a phone call from a dear friend who informed her of another case similar to mine, where a vet reconstructed a dog’s face just like Dr. Shores did for me! She advised Mom to call this vet to see if she could help me. Please don’t get me wrong, Mom and I are very grateful to Dr. Shores and his staff for all that they have done for me, but MSU is VERY VERY EXPENSIVE!!!! So Mom called this vet and told them all about me and asked if they could take over my case. The person that Mom spoke to on the phone said that they did not think there would be a problem and to get all of my records together, Medical History and all itemized medical expenses so they could get an idea of everything that they had to order to be used in each and every surgery. Mom went to work the next day with this huge folder and as she was walking out the door she turned to me and said “Will, I think someone will help us without being so expensive”! I looked at that folder she was carrying and I said to myself “that’s all on me”? Gosh, Mom has really been taking real good care of me!

Mom got a call the following week from a technician that works at this veterinarian clinic wanting to know when we could drive up for an examination. The date was set for May 3rd for me to meet with Dr. Lawrence. So Mom started making plans and calls for hotel rooms, directions and this and that and before you know it, bam, we were on the road early Monday morning May 2nd, to Alabama. It was a very long trip. I slept most of the way waking up occasionally to check on Mom, because I knew Mom was very tired as she does not drive long distances like this very often. We finally arrived at the hotel and Mom checked in, took care of me (potty wise) and immediately fell into bed for a nap. I climbed up into bed with her and put my head on her hip while she slept.

BTW, I never slept with Mom before, but about three months ago, I surprised the heck out of her when she was half a sleep. I jumped in bed with her and put my head on her tummy. She was truly amazed because she didn’t even think I could get on the bed or didn’t want to! Boy, did I fool her! She just loved me being there next to her and reached around to put her arm around me and we both fell asleep till the next morning. Man, her bed was comfortable, why didn’t I think of doing that before instead of sleeping on a hard carpet floor? Oh well, now I know where the soft spot is!

The next morning Mom woke me up very early and said “Will, we need to get ready we have a very special and important appointment to make”. So Mom started packing and made sure nothing was missed and moments later, there we were on the road again! This time it was not very long at all, we were only on the road for 15 minutes. Mom got me out of the car and we went into this really nice veterinary clinic that was so clean, I could almost see myself looking on the floor! The staff, when Mom told them “Hi, I’m Barbara Leggette Collie Rescue of Mississippi”, they all took a moment and said “This must be Will, we have been expecting you”! Gee, with the greeting that Mom got compared to me, it was almost like she wasn’t there, but then again, she wasn’t shot in the face at close range with a shot gun!
