Text Box: After the staff met me, they were very nice to Mom and let her come into the examination room with me so she could know what was going on at all times, they even got her coffee! Dr. Lawrence asked Mom what her expectations were and she replied that I thought this was only an initial examination where you would examine him, send me home and then call me with your game plan. Well, because Dr. Lawrence knew Mom drove along way for me, they decided to start the game plan that day.

Dr. Lawrence asked what needed to be done and Mom told her about the hole in my gum above my canine which needed to be taken care of because I was very prone to getting infections. Dr. Lawrence went on to examine the area where my hole was and found that it was blocked but, did not know what it was blocked with. She initially thought that there was a bone pallet there that just seemed to close over the hole by itself but, needed to make sure, so she suggested taking a dental x-ray to get a better idea.

In the meantime, she did not want to step on Dr. Rick’s toes thinking he could do the procedure himself so Mom suggested her calling him and speak to him about what she proposed to do. Dr. Rick knew about Mom contacting this nice doctor and was even expecting her to call, so there weren’t any surprises when Dr. Lawrence called Dr. Rick. After a ten minute phone conversation, Dr. Lawrence came out to discuss some options with Mom.

She suggested taking the dental x-ray so she would be able to determine what needed to be done if anything with the hole in my gum. In doing this, I had to be sedated and Dr. Lawrence told Mom it would take about an hour until she would be able to examine me more extensively. Dr. Lawrence also asked Mom if she wanted any other surgeries to be done in the future. She went on to tell Mom that I looked really good, was very pleased with how I acted, knowing that I was eating and drinking just fine and did not see any other reason to put me through anymore traumatic surgeries.

Dr. Lawrence then asked Mom if the way I looked bothered her and while Dr. Lawrence was waiting for Mom to answer, I sat their and begged Mom, “please tell her that you don’t want to put me through any more surgeries, that you love me just as I am, even with my goofy forever smile and I’ll promise not to bite you any more when you are trying to take care of me”. Just then Mom replied “no, the way Will looks doesn’t bother me in the least bit, I have become very attached to his very special smile as it makes him very unique”. I continued to sit there very quietly while Dr. Lawrence explained to Mom that there was no need to continue with any other surgeries as they would all be cosmetic and that if the way I looked didn’t bother Mom, then just let me live out my life the way I am. Mom agreed 100 percent! She didn’t even think about it, she just said “fine NO more surgeries!!!! Hey guys!!!!!! Did you hear that? NO MORE SURGERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, due to the extensive injuries I received and not having my little black nose where I can breathe normally, I will always be at high risk for potential infections for the rest of my life, especially when I start getting older. Hey, I can live with that knowing I won’t need any more surgeries!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Thump, thump, thump – that’s my tail wagging!

Oh, by the way we even got to meet Duffy, the dog that was also shot in the face and what a fine looking boy he was, not as handsome as me though! We leaned that he was being adopted that morning to a very nice family! It was really nice to meet him after all, he was the reason for Mom contacting Dr. Lawrence in the first place to see if she could help me too!

After Dr. Lawrence and Mom finished talking about options, Dr. Lawrence had someone take me away so that Dr. Lawrence could start getting me prepped for the procedure. Because it was going to take a while, Dr. Lawrence suggested that Mom go get a bite to eat or go shopping and that she would call Mom on her cell phone as soon as she learned something. So off Mom went.
